If you regularly use the
Chrome
browser
and
develop websites
, you might already be familiar with the wealth of
chrome extension development tools
available in the
Chrome extension
store. One such tool that has gained significant attention is Firebug Lite, a Chrome extension that has proven to be one of the
best chrome extensions
for web developers despite its aggregate rating of 3.1 out of 5.
The Unique Features of Firebug Lite
Firebug Lite is not merely a substitute for Chrome Developer
Tools
or the original Firebug. It is a chrome extension designed to complement these tools with its unique features. The extension offers a rich visual representation of HTML elements, DOM elements, and Box Model shading, similar to what users experienced with Firebug. Additionally, it allows users to inspect HTML elements using their mouse and edit CSS properties live, enhancing the chrome extension development process.
User Feedback and Rating
As with any product, Firebug Lite has received both positive and negative user reviews. Some users have praised it as a very helpful tool, while others have faced compatibility issues with certain features and websites. For instance, Harsh Choksi highlighted an error message that persists even after restarting the PC and opening the Chrome browser after installing this extension. Similarly, J J noted compatibility issues with Google's stock chart. On the positive side, Md Sobahan Al Mottakin described the extension as "nice and very helpful," and ALI RAZA simply stated it's "good".
Understanding the Rating
Despite the mixed reviews, it's essential to note that the 3.1 aggregate rating doesn't undermine the usefulness of Firebug Lite as a Chrome extension. Its rating could be attributed to its limitations, such as the inability to read external resources, work well on pages with frames, and the unavailability of a JavaScript debugger and Net Panel. However, these limitations do not negate its benefits for website developers using the Chrome browser.
Why Firebug Lite is a Top Chrome Extension
This Chrome extension is faster to load, captures all console calls and XHR requests for a page, and offers the convenience of browser toolbar integration. The activation scheme is simple and easy to use. Firebug Lite is deactivated when you first visit a web page, and clicking on it activates the extension for all pages in that domain. To deactivate for a specific domain, simply visit a page in that domain and click on the "off" button.
Conclusion
Firebug Lite is indeed one of the top Chrome extensions for web developers. Its rich features, easy activation, and potential for future improvements make it a valuable addition to the Chrome extension store. Regardless of its current aggregate rating, it has proven its worth as a vital chrome extension development tool in the hands of many developers.
10 Reviews For This Extension
Error: It seems that this page is opened before Firebug Lite was enabled. It will (hopefully) load after reloading this page. I already restarted my PC and open Chrome Browser after installing this extension yet I am facing same error for all page even it is not working neither in ingonito or in normal tab. This extension is pretty disaster.

Freezes my chrome, thank goodness the uninstall on this page works because otherwise, it would have frozen it indefinitely... Edit: strangely seems fine after writing the review... Edit2: Read your browsing history is the only perm it has...
Incompatible with google stock chart. Whenever I have this ON, google's "AAPL stock" chart is not working.

Not working
Absolutely nasty extension. No work. This kind of extension should be removed from the Google Web Store.
It added items to the bar and context menu, but inspecting any page with Firebug Lite did nothing, even after a restart.
